Why the Risk Assessment Determines Your Testing Deadline
Under § 3 of the Industrial Safety Ordinance (BetrSichV), every employer is required to carry out a risk assessment before using work equipment. For electrical equipment, this assessment significantly determines how often testing is required.

Which Factors Influence the Testing Interval?
Environmental Conditions
Dust, moisture, chemical influences, or mechanical stress (e.g. on construction sites or in workshops) shorten the testing interval.
Defect Rate of Previous Tests
If the defect rate in your business is sustainably below 2%, deadlines can be extended in a legally compliant manner after consultation with the qualified electrician.
User Group & Usage Frequency
Equipment in constant rotating use by different people requires closer monitoring than fixed office workstations.
Wo das genau geregelt ist
Die Pflicht zur Gefährdungsbeurteilung selbst steht in § 3 BetrSichV. Die daraus resultierenden Grundpflichten des Arbeitgebers – geeignete Arbeitsmittel bereitzustellen, ihren sicheren Zustand zu gewährleisten und die erforderlichen Prüfungen zu veranlassen – ergeben sich aus § 4 BetrSichV.
Zwei Prüfarten nach TRBS 1201
Eine vollständige Prüfung besteht laut TRBS 1201 immer aus zwei Teilen:
Ordnungsprüfung
Sind die erforderlichen Unterlagen – Betriebsanweisung, frühere Prüfnachweise, Dokumentation – vorhanden und plausibel?
Technische Prüfung
Sichtprüfung, Erproben und Messen des tatsächlichen Zustands – bei Bedarf einschließlich Zerlegung und eingehender Funktionsprüfung.
